Digital printing has advanced drastically over the past several years, to the point were it's quality is close or the same as offset printing in many aspects. A main advantage of digital printing is that there are no films to be developed, no plates to be made, and no press set-ups. Without all of this overhead to worry about, that means you can affordablely have small runs of your print job done, in fact you can print only one in many cases. There's no need to have thousands of of your items printed to only have them age and be useless before you can use them all.
Digital printing also offers the ability of variable data printing, also known as one-to-one marketing. With variable data printing (VDP) you can completely customize each piece that is printed.

For example, imagine a car dealership that could send post cards to all of it clients to remind them it's time for service, not only could you put the client's name and number, but also a picture of the type of car that they own and coupons related to the car and the milage. Or a realtor that could send letters listing only the houses that match what their client is looking for. Our team can work with you and your customer database to build any type of variable data marketing program you want. Or if you do not have a cutomer database, we can work with you to develop one.
After looking at many of the machines on the market today, we chose the Konica Minolta bizhub PRO C500 Digital Imaging System as our primary color digital press. Why the C500? Because of the print quality, the lower gloss of the toner, the sheet size (a max of 13" x 19.2"), the max paper weight (270 gsm by the book, but we've run thicker paper often) and, of course, the price and per click fees. There are much better full fledge digital presses on the market, but coming in at least 3 time the price if not more. As with any business cost, that ultimately has to get passed on to our clients. We have to balance cost and quality, and the C500 delivers both.
We also selected another Konica Minolta machine for our black & white printing, a bizhub PRO 7085 Digital Imaging System. Offering the ability to print on a sheet size up to 12" x 18" and paper weights up to 110 lbs Index.
We are currently have our prints out for testing so that we can soon offer the ability to do coatings.
